The most recent edition of Keith Richards’ Youtube series ‘Ask Keith Richards’ features the lead guitarist discussing the idea of new Rolling Stones music.
This edition of the web series answered the question, “Are you inspired to get back in the studio with the Stones and do some more recording?”
Richards replied with, “Yes, we are — very, very shortly. Cutting some new stuff and considering where to take it next. Blue & Lonesome caught us a little bit by surprise in that we figured it was something we had to do, but we didn’t expect the response.”
The Rolling Stones have not released new music since their 2005 LP A Bigger Bang. But, the band has been pretty active for the last couple years, including a North and South American Tour, their first ever show in Cuba, and their critically acclaimed 2016 blues-cover album Blue & Lonesome.
Based on the success of Blue & Lonesome, Richards is very open to the idea of making a sequel to their blues-only cover album. “But it wouldn’t take a twist of the arm to do some more of that. It’s such fun to record, and there’s plenty more where that came from” Richards’ announced.
