Springsteen on Broadway

Bruce Springsteen is taking his talents to New York City this fall for an eight-week run at the Walter Kerr Theatre.  Even though nothing has officially been announced yet, the New York Post is reporting that his two-month residence will begin in November.

The reason for the change of pace is due to Springsteen hoping for a more intimate setting.  He has been playing giant stadiums and arenas for many years, but wants to strip his set down for a more private and personal concert.  A source from the Kerr Theatre stated, “He wants to try something more intimate, and he likes the idea of being on Broadway.” Plus, “he’ll keep the lights on in the building, and they’ll sell gazillions of dollars worth of booze.”

The Walter Kerr Theatre has been open since the musical Amélie finished its run last month.  Additionally, the company that owns the Walter Kerr Theatre offered Springsteen free rent for his run there, an offer he couldn’t refuse.  Many are speculating that this two-month run is just prep for something bigger: A musical based on his album and memoir Born to Run.
